Napoleon and Josephine by Kathy Redmond

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  We are ever-so-pleased to be able to offer this marvelous matched set of great historical figures: Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte by the incomparable Artist Kathy Redmond. It is getting more and more difficult to acquire pieces created by this gifted lady and this elegant pair does not disappoint!

Napoleon is dressed in full military splendour - of course! - one would expect no less, and Josephine is bedecked in a regal empire-styled gown with pleated chiffon skirt befitting her place and period in history. Once again, the charm of these dolls is enhanced by the details at which Kathy excels. Napoleon sports a fabulous period-correct bicorne hat; and Josephine's eminently-stylish early 1800's up-do with cascading ringlets is "crowned" with a golden tiara - all crafted entirely in porcelain. Josephine's exquisite jewellery, also carved directly into the porcelain, is a shining example of the hallmark of Kathy's work. Just beautiful!

CONDITION:  Napoleon is in excellent vintage condition with only one extremely minor point of note, that being that there are two tiny tips missing in the myriad high points on the reddish trim of his porcelain bicorne hat. Most would not even notice this to include it, but it is included here for complete accuracy. Napoleon is an exceptional display-ready doll.

Josephine has a couple of eccentricities in that one of her carved ringlets has been professionally repaired as evidenced by the tiny curved white line on the fifth ringlet from the left in the close-up photo of her hair, and there are some small missing pieces on the leaves/roses adorning her shoes as shown in the close-up photo of her feet. Of additional extremely minor note are a few pinholes in the tissue silk panel of her train only. There is no damage to the rest of her outfit. She is clean, beautiful and display-ready.

SIZE:  Napoleon and Josephine are approximately 16 and 1/2 inches and 14 inches tall respectively.

Anne of Cleves by Kathy Redmond

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  Kathy Redmond's dolls are always exquisite in their realistic portraiture and this portrait doll of Anne of Cleves, fourth wife of the infamous Henry the VIII, is no exception!  Kathy sculpts each doll in porcelain and each doll is a OOAK as it emerges from the clay with its own expression and individuality.  Even if Kathy makes more than one portrait doll of an historical figure, no two of them will look exactly alike.

One of the most beautiful features of Kathy's dolls - especially her medieval and royal ladies - are their superbly crafted millinery/head wear and wonderful carved jewelry.  The detail worked into the porcelain is always exceptional and always results in a stunning piece of art.

This portrait doll of Anne of Cleves is dressed in a vibrant red velvet, gold-trimmed gown which is reminiscent of the gown she wears in her portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger (1539) (which is included in the slideshow of pictures of this doll, courtesy of Wikipedia).  Kathy recreated her golden headdress and bejeweled bodice front with exacting detail (the bottom "jeweled" band is hidden beneath the gold-trimmed edge of the dress front).  Anne sports one carved bracelet and two rings (one gold band and one raised "jeweled" ring).  She is marked on the back of her shoulder plate "Anne of Cleves" along with Kathy's signature logo.

CONDITION:  Anne is in excellent vintage condition with no damage or previous repairs to her porcelain.  She is very clean and display-ready.

SIZE:  Anne stands approximately 14  inches tall.

Clark Gable as Rhett Butler by Kathy Redmond

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  Kathy Redmond's dolls are always exquisite in their realistic portraiture of historical figures and celebrities alike, and one doesn't have to be a dyed-in-the-wool Gone With The Wind fan to recognize this charming rogue of the South, Rhett Butler!  As dashing as ever, Rhett is dressed in an ensemble reminiscent of that worn to the barbeque at Twelve Oaks when he first lays eyes on, and is instantly smitten by, Scarlett O'Hara, that being, a velveteen pin-stripe suit with grey felt vest and matching felt spats.  Tiny bead "buttons" lend period detail as does the debonair golden chain which hints at a pocket watch tucked away in his vest pocket.  In keeping with Kathy's great talent for expressions, Rhett sports his usual devilish grin, the one which prompted Scarlett to remark on his possible unsavory knowledge of what a woman might look like "underneath her shimmy"!  He is marked with Kathy's signature logo; and is a remarkable doll indeed!

CONDITION:  Rhett is in excellent condition with no damage or previous repairs to his porcelain.  He is an exceptional display-ready doll.

SIZE:  Approximately 15 and 1/4 inches tall.

Arabian King by Kathy Redmond

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  Kathy Redmond's dolls are always exquisite in their realistic portraiture and when her imagination is allowed a freer reign to inspire an already phenomenal talent, the results are sensational!  Here is a possible opportunity to add an extremely unique doll to your Kathy Redmond collection.  In our many years of collecting Kathy's work, we have not seen another exotic "Arabian Nights" gentleman such as this.  He is not identified as any specific historical person or fictional character, but he certainly brings to mind thoughts of One Thousand and One Nights and King Shahryar!  Whatever his identity, he is a fabulous piece of doll art, from his intricate, fantastical, gold-trimmed turban to his rich jewelled collar to his "gold embroidered" slippers.  He even sports a wonderful gold tooth!  This gentleman bears Kathy's signature logo on the back of his shoulder plate.  He is both mysterious and charming, and is sure to add considerable flair to any Redmond collection!

CONDITION:  This Arabian King is in excellent condition with no damage or previous repairs to his porcelain.  He is an exceptional display-ready doll.

SIZE:  Approximately 16 and 1/2 inches tall.

Alyonushka by Alexandra Koukinova

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  From Alexandra Koukinova's Russian Collection comes Alyonushka.  Her Certificate Of Authenticity states:

Alyonoushka is one of the most popular personages of Russian fairy-tales.  A very young peasant girl, almost a child, she became an orphan too early and had to take care of herself and of her little brother.  Wicked witch, being an eternal sworn enemy of beauty, tenderness, kindness and love, made up her mind to ruin unprotected children.  A lot of difficulties and dangers awaited for Alyonoushka and her little brother everywhere because of the witch's underhand dealing and snares.  But Alyonushka met a faithful friend and, as always in fairy-tales, there was a happy end:  sincerity, kindness, devotion and true love overcame everything.

Alyonushka wears a peasant-style brown printed cotton dress and linen undershirt.  She is marked on her left leg the same as on her COA:  A1. N 0/1998 y.m..  It is possible that she is an artist proof.

CONDITION:  Alyonushka is in excellent condition.  She came to us seated in a very appropriate wooden, rope-bottomed chair and it is included with the doll along with her COA.  When viewing the picture of Alyonushka's legs and identifying marks, please do not think that the doll is dirty.  This is not the case.  Her feet and hands have just been given a partial painted "wash" to make it appear as though they are a bit dirty/dusty as befits her state of orphaned hardship.

SIZE:  Although Alyonushka's COA claims that she is 24.5 inches tall, she is closer to the size reported on Alexandra's website, that being approximately 20.5 inches tall.

Girl in Pink Silk by Sandy Geikas

titanicera.jpg (3149 bytes)DESCRIPTION:  This charming little girl with an expression older than her years was made by doll artist Sandy Geikas.  She is dressed in a lovely pink silk dress with matching cotton batiste, lace-trimmed undergarments consisting of a camisole, bloomers and petticoat.  Her paint work is exquisite with delicately lashed captivating intaglio eyes, very detailed brows and darling tiny nails painted on her fingers and toes.  Her hair is swept up at the back into a French roll and then topped with a lavender ribbon which matches the lavender sash at her waist.  She is marked:  Sandy Geikas © 87.

CONDITION:  Excellent with no damage or repairs. The only very minor point of cosmetic note is the existence of two tiny spots on the bow in her hair (which can be seen in her close-up photo).  This little lady is in display-ready condition.

SIZE:  Approximately 16 inches tall seated as shown.  She would likely be approximately 20 - 21 inches tall if she were able to be stretched out into a standing position, but this is not possible as she is made to be seated.
